“When you know better, you do better”

“When you know better, you do better.”  That is my motto for the next six weeks.  After suffering from laryngitis two weeks ago and still not feeling back to my old self, I was finally able to see a specialist.  Unfortunately, I was told that I have nodules: very small, very recent, and, now for the good news…very treatable.  That was all I wanted to hear.  It was disheartening to hear that I would have to be on vocal rest and gone from singing for 6 weeks, but I knew at that moment this was a time to really focus on practicing vocal health and listening to “my voice.”

I have prided myself on the fact that I would/could sing even when I was sick or not up to it vocally.  And after 9 years of gigging I have cancelled maybe a handful of times.  I never wanted to disappoint or cancel when I knew deep down I could get through the night and heal tomorrow.  I am learning that although that is a noble way of thinking, it isn’t healthy and in the long run, harmful to very thing I should be protecting and caring for, my voice.

I work for 2 of the most amazing restaurants: Vincitorios and Vintage 95.  They said they would be waiting for me and I hope you’ll do the same.  Thank you for your support, and since I can’t speak or sing, I will WRITE!  Now I’m off on my journey to “Six Weeks of Silence.”

Love,

Sarah
