Sarah Vanell
They are gone! The exact words from my ENT: “they (my vocal cords) look beautiful!” She was very pleased with the results and, as you can imagine, I was over the moon with the news that my nodules were gone. In the 9 years that I have been singing professionally I have never had a larger sense of appreciation and obligation to protect and care for my instrument. I absolutely agree with my doctor when she said I have a new found lifestyle, one in line with what I love to do and have dreamt of doing since I was a little girl. People ask if I am going to continue speaking as softly as I have for the last 6 weeks, and I have to say, I really like speaking at a more subdued volume; it’s like giving my vocal cords a hug
The moment I got in my car to head home I was smiling from ear to ear anticipating singing a few notes on my drive. It was humbling. My voice has been resting and now I am working on waking it up again. It was soft and timid, and a lot of that stems from my hesitation to cause it any further harm, just what I’ve been avoiding these last 6 weeks. But, as I drove farther and the closer I got to home, the louder and more confident I became.
I am now on the journey of getting back to where I was not so long ago. I will be easing into my regular schedule slowly but surely. Thank you to my restaurant families Vintage 95 and VinciTorio’s for your patience in this process and I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed you. But I know it to be true that absence makes the heart grow fonder.
I am so glad to be able to write this update with a sense of ease and accomplishment. Being able to share this very personal and trying experience with you has been nothing short of therapeutic and I have no doubt that it helped me to remain positive and focused. Thank you. I look forward to performing for you again soon as I become reacquainted with my most treasured instrument, my voice.
Much love,
Sarah
