4th Week of Silence

Wow.  I can’t believe I am already on week 4 of 6.  I really feel like this rest is doing just what we hoped it would.  I remember the day I saw my ENT it was exhausting to just speak, let alone sing.  Now, although I am speaking significantly less I am noticing a difference in the way it feels.

I have also recently started seeing an allergy specialist and am finally addressing issues that have been affecting my vocal cords for years.  Anyone who knows me well knows that I am the queen of throat clearing…“ahem.”  It has just become ambient noise around here.  What I have learned most in this time off is proper techniques, not in singing, but in the everyday use of my voice.  No throat clearing is number one on my “Do Not Do” list, and this is very difficult for me, as recent allergy testing reveals I am allergic to the state of Arizona.  However, I am glad to report I am not allergic to animal dander, i.e. cats, dogs, mice, and my favorite, cockroaches.  Phew.

I am feeling very optimistic today, and some days have been more challenging than others for sure.  I am going to relish in my optimism and direct my healing to my voice.  The power of the mind (thanks Dad).

I see my ENT next Thursday for another evaluation to see if my nodules are completely gone!  So, until next week, speak softer, speak less, and no more “ahems” about it 😉
